First and foremost I want to apologize for the lack of posts on the CAMP-SORBA website. It seems as though I have not updated the site in a few months and I hate to disappoint the fans of CAMP. Even though there has not been an update on the site CAMP has been moving full steam ahead the past few months. This post is an attempt to do a little catch up.
First in the news; CAMP has been announced as an official IMBA Chapter. We were accepted as a Chapter in early September and everyone should have received their membership packets. If you have not received your packet please send an email to email@example.com. This is an exciting time for mountain biking in East Alabama, and our partnership with IMBA will only help with our mission. Thanks goes out to all of those who’s hard work helped get us to official chapter status and to all the members for making it happen!
The next big piece of news is that CAMP has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the State of Alabama to further improve Chewacla State Park. The grant was awarded from funds made available to the state from the FHA’s Recreational Trails Program. While we are still in the process of making the grant a reality (going through compliance, etc.) be on the lookout for updates on the grant process and future plans for Chewacla. Lastly, members of the CAMP leadership team (Mack, Ria, and Philip) enjoyed a very informative trip to Santa Fe, NM for the bi-annual IMBA World Summit. We all came home with tons of information to help grow not only mountain biking in the area but cycling in general. We are still collaborating our information from the trip and once we have we will post a full write-up on this site. Personally, I came home more fired up than ever to make a positive change to the East Alabama area, and am really excited to make a difference.
In addition to all of these things we have been having weekly night rides (lights required) at Chewacla headed up by Hank. There isn’t a set day of the week we have been having the rides, so check out the CAMP-SORBA facebook page and your email’s inbox for more information.
