For those of you who don’t know, one of the MANY improvements slated for 2013 at Chewacla State Park is a skills area. It will be located adjacent to the existing pump track, which is just up the hill from the second parking area. The first Skills Area Team meeting was held yesterday! This picture is evidence of Bill Perry making it happen! Ioni was up front giving a lesson. 🙂
This whole area is going to be loaded with cool stuff such as the skills area with a half pipe central feature, multiple levels of pump tracks, dirt jumps, etc. The half-pipe central feature will be likely be popular with not just mountain bikers, but BMX’ers and mountain skateboarders as well. Here’s a picture of a mountain skateboarder in case you have never seen one.
This half pipe will likely be the first seen in the Southeast, which will help to set us apart from other trails in the area. The advantage of the half pipe is that no dirt is trucked in saving our valuable and limited resources. We grade down the existing hill a few feet and use the dirt from the half pipe and detention area to build up the mounds. The plan is also to dig up enough dirt to supply what is needed to complete the pump track. We would then build out the trails around the half pipe, dirt jumps, and pump track including the surrounding wooded areas.
